Finally, we have sufficient Aeroplan miles to redeem a round-trip reward ticket from Ottawa, ON, Canada to Bangkok, Thailand.

  1. In order to maximize the benefit of using these hard-earned miles, we will go to Bangkok, Thailand and stop overs at 2 other cities.
    • Aeroplan allows an international travel reward to have 2 stopovers in addition to the destination, which requires the same amount of Aeroplan miles as a simple round-trip international  travel reward.
    • Stop over is a stay or connecting flights at an airport for 24 hours or more.
    • An example of itineraries :
      • Ottawa, Canada (origin) -> Paris, France (stop over #1)
      • Paris, France -> Bangkok, Thailand (destination)
      • Bangkok, Thailand -> Hong Kong, China (stop over #2)
      • Hong Kong, China -> Ottawa, Canada (origin).
  2. Alternatively, we can stop over at 1 other city and have an open-jaw connection.
    • Aeroplan allows an international travel reward to have 1 stopover and an open-jaw connection at either destination or origin.
    • An example of itineraries (open-jaw at destination):
      • Ottawa, Canada (origin) -> Paris, France (stop over)
      • Paris, France -> Bangkok, Thailand (destination);
      • [we will arrange the travel from Bangkok, Thailand to Hong Kong ourselves];
      • Hong Kong (open-jaw at destination) -> Ottawa, Canada (origin).
    • An example of itineraries (open-jaw at origin):
      • Ottawa, Canada (origin) -> Paris, France (stop over)
      • Paris, France -> Bangkok, Thailand (destination)
      • Bangkok, Thailand -> Toronto, Canada (open-jaw at origin);
      • [we will arrange the travel from Toronto, Canada to Ottawa, Canada ourselves].
  3. In addition, we may take advantages of connecting fights at an airport for less than 24 hours and have a day-trip there.
    • Aeroplan considers that a flight connection of 23 hours 59 minutes or less at an airport is not a stopover.
      • An example of itineraries :
        • Ottawa, Canada (origin) -> New York, USA (connecting flights in 23 hours 59 minutes or less)
        • New York, USA -> Paris, France (stop over #1)
        • Paris, France -> Bangkok, Thailand (destination)
        • Bangkok, Thailand -> Hong Kong, China (stop over #2)
        • Hong Kong, China -> Taipei, Taiwan (connecting flights in 23 hours 59 minutes or less)
        • Taipei, Taiwan -> San Francisco, USA (connecting flights in 23 hours 59 minutes or less)
        • San Francisco, USA ->  Toronto, Canada (connecting flights in 23 hours 59 minutes or less)
        • Toronto, Canada -> Ottawa, Canada (origin).

Money Saving Tips:

  • Plan ahead and take the advantages of either 2 stopovers, or 1 stopover and 1 open-jaw connection
  • Plan for day trips at many cities on route to the destination as long as the connecting flights are less than 24 hours apart)
